William Norwood Prescott

Matthews, GA  – William “Norwood” Prescott, 74, loving husband of the late Barbara Ann Stewart Prescott, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Davison and Rev. Ed Chance officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

One of eight children born to the late Amie Lou Johnson Prescott and the late William Lee Prescott, Norwood was a lifelong resident of Matthews and was a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. He managed the seed department at Barrow & Prescott for 25 years, was a pipe fitter at Plant Vogtle for 5 years, as well as made deliveries all over the southeast for Buck Jones Nursery, and worked on his farm and raised cows, goats and quail. Having a green thumb, Norwood was well-known for his vegetable garden. He found great pleasure in his old John Deere tractor collection and enjoyed tinkering on them to keep them running.  In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing and reading. Being very humorous and quick witted, Norwood could spin a tale like no other—he loved laughter and always lived life to its fullest. A man of integrity, he was a man of his word and always did the right thing. Being generous to a fault, he helped anyone in any way he could.  He cherished his family and was happiest in their presence.  Norwood has left a great void filled with wonderful memories.

Norwood is also preceded in death by his brother, Bryant Prescott; grandson, Mark Purvis; and great grandson, Bryson Vause. Survivors include his children, Dianne Rabitsch (Buddy), Tanny Prescott (Janet), Susan Kuehne (Charles), Bill Prescott, and Lisa Usry (Bob); six siblings, Bernice Arrington (Bill), Helen Howard, Rowan Prescott (Linda), Janice Dowdy (Bruce), Wanda McGahee, and Hank Prescott; six grandchildren, Kimberly Rabitsch, Evan Rabitsch, Amanda Mason, Macy Lynn Purvis, Christy Smith (Chad), and Cody Usry; ten great grandchildren, Coleman Rabitsch, Braxton Rabitsch, Audrey Shockley, Kayleigh Mason, Brooklyn Mason, Gaitlyn Smith, Dylan Smith, Lucas Smith, Caroline Smith, and Sadie Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be John Creech, Kenneth Hughes, Anthony Kelley, Jake Kight, Buddy Rabitsch, Matt Storey, Tom Thurman and Larry Van Winkle.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM Friday evening, January 23, 2015.

Not "How Did He Die?" But "How Did He Live?"

Not "how did he die", but, "how did he live?"
Not "what did he gain", but, "what did he give?"
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, "what was his church", nor, "what was his creed?"
But had he befriended those really ion need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not, "what did the sketch in the newspaper say?"
But, "how many were sorry when he passed away?"
