William David Bass
Wrens, GA – After a hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis, William David Bass, 50, loving husband of M. Darlene James-Bass, entered into rest Thursday evening, May 3, 2012 at Downtown Division of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Scott McKinney, Sam Burnette and Edward C. James officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Martin Cemetery near Bethel Baptist Church in Milner GA.
Born in Griffin GA, David was the youngest child of the late James Franklin Bass and the late Laverne McLaurin Bass Humphrey. He proudly served his country in the US Army and was a lifelong patriot. He re-branded and maintained convenience/gas businesses until his illness prevented him from working. David loved racing—dragsters, NASCAR and was the rear-tire changer on Mad Dog Motorcycle Racing Team—baseball, football and fishing. He loved music—it soothed his soul. David was a man with diverse interests and talents, and could converse on any topic—he always found common ground. Most of all, he loved people--never met a stranger; always saw and believed the best in people; and was a compassionate, loyal friend. He wanted to make people laugh and enjoy life—he was an entertainer. He was a thinker, seeing solutions not problems. David lived life LARGE—he enjoyed every minute, living life to its fullest. Everyone who had the opportunity to meet him, never forgot him. David’s goal in life was to make a positive difference in other people—he succeeded! This one in a million will be greatly missed.
Other survivors include his children, Cassidy Laurin Bass and Raegan Alaina Bass of Gray GA; a sister, Louise Bass-Choate (Scott) of Frisco TX; a brother, James Franklin Bass, Jr.; his "adopted" family--Margie "Ma" James, Edward C. James (Debbie), Raymond K. James (Miriam), Nathan C. James (Carlee), Brandon P. James (Roseann), Tyler E. James (Beth), Blacke James, and Colton and Cash James; and many, many friends. Pallbearers will be Greg Bailey, Ross Bailey, Michael Carr, Byron Dampier, Garth Dampier, David Heckman, Bill Souter and Tom Souter.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home on Monday, May 7, 2012, from 6:00PM until.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Smith and the staff of CNVAMC for the great care given him. He trusted and loved each of you.

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and summer days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.
