Wanda Gail Prescott McGahee, 73, loving wife of the late Johnny Samuel McGahee, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Thursday afternoon, May11, 2023. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00PM Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2023 at Believers Baptist Church with the Reverend Stacy Phillips officiating.
Wanda was the sixth of eight children born to the late Ammie Lou Johnson Prescott and the late William Lee Prescott. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1967, she worked at Stapleton Garment Company and Cobb Equipment Company. While at Cobb Equipment, she fell in love with her lifelong friend, marrying him in 1977 at which time she moved to Stapleton and became a full-time homemaker to her ready-made family. Two years later, she and Johnny grew their family, now having three children in her loving care. Family was her first priority—making sure that she provided a safe, loving, God-fearing sanctuary while maintaining a close relationship with her parents and siblings. When the children were older, Wanda went back to work as the Librarian at McCollum Public Library in Wrens, retiring after 32+ years of service. During football season, you could find Wanda rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs—GO DAWGS!—and during baseball season, she was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Wanda loved shopping at Belk's and Walmart, as well as eating out at Peggy’s or Ruby Tuesday. Her best time was had when spending time with her family and friends. To know Wanda was to love Wanda. She had a smile that would light up the room. People gravitated to her beautiful smile and great sense of humor—she was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Wanda was her own person and would share her opinions and thoughts while accepting others’ opinions. You always knew where you stood with Wanda—she would let you know in that oh-so-nice-Southern-charm way and always with a smile. Being a compassionate person, she had a heart for and tended to the sick and elderly. Accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young woman, she was a member of Waldens Methodist Church in Avera, and, in recent years, attended Believers Baptist in Wrens. Wanda fought a hard and courageous fight with her bout with liver cancer. She never lost her sense of humor and remained positive throughout her illness. A beautiful soul is now at rest and the family is comforted in knowing that she is now pain-free in her eternal home in Heaven.
Wanda was welcomed into Heaven by those who went before her which also included her siblings, Norwood Prescott, Janice Dowdy and Bryant Prescott. Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Samuel Prescott McGahee (Brooke) of North Augusta SC, ; was blessed to help raise her two step children, Scot McGahee (Susan) of Wrens and Sherri McGahee of Clarks Hill SC; her blessed grandchildren, Matthew McGahee, Eli McGahee, Jewels McGahee, Aaron McGahee, Amber Featherston (Aaron), Justin Jahn (Samantha), Jessica Jahn and Jonathan Jahn; four siblings, Bernice Arrington, Helen Howard, Rowan Prescott (Linda) and Hank Prescott; other extended family, church family and a host of friends.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses at Piedmont Augusta Hospital who took care of Wanda throughout her illness. They also want to express a heartfelt thank you to Regency Hospice of Aiken SC; and especially to Pam Randolf who was the angel that came to love, comfort and care for Wanda and our family during her illness.
