Walter Elbert Prescott

Wrens, GA  –              Walter Elbert Prescott, 85, loving husband of 66 years to Eva Mae Wilson Prescott,  peacefully entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, May 17, 2017, at Keysville Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2017 at Wrens Baptist Church with Reverend Carson Fellows officiating.  Interment will follow in the family plot at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

The youngest son of the late Carrie Ann Riley Prescott and the late James Atkinson Prescott, Walter was born and raised in Wrens, where he graduated from Wrens High School after which he attended South Georgia College in Douglas and was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry.  At the young age of nine, Walter accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and joined the fellowship of Wrens Baptist Church. A patriot, he joined the Navy and proudly served his country. After boot camp, he married the love of his life. Being stationed at various naval bases, they would join the fellowship of the local church. Upon his honorable discharged, they made their way back home and again joined the fellowship of Wrens Baptist Church, making him a member for a total of 72 years.  Walter loved his church and church family—faithfully supporting the church and actively serving the Lord by teaching both men’s and boys’ Sunday School classes, being a devoted supporter of Brotherhood (a/k/a Baptist Men), serving on various committees, being a greeter, and being ordained and serving as a deacon for many years.  His great love of music served him well as a member of the choir—he loved gospel music and singing praises to his Lord.  Farming was in Walter’s blood—he loved growing peaches, cotton, row crops and cattle. Along with farming, in 1968, he opened Prescott Furniture store.  Walter was a huge supporter of Farm Bureau, serving as the Jefferson County President for 37 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and shooting birds, especially quail, and was a great “supervisor”.  He also followed politics and enjoyed debating the issues at hand. Equipped with a twinkle in his eye and a dry sense of humor, he was never at a loss for words. A strict disciplinarian, Walter loved his children unconditionally, teaching them about Jesus, being a good provider and being a devoted father. He was not a materialistic person but rather stored his “treasures” in his family, leaving them a legacy of honesty, integrity, and servitude.  Walter loved his Lord and Savior, his devoted wife, loving children, church family, community and America. He has completed his life’s work and is now in Glory.

Walter was also preceded in death by his brothers, James A. Prescott Jr. and Charles R. Prescott; and son-in-law, Nelson Foster. Other survivors include his four children, Sandra P. Foster, Richard W. Prescott (Ina), Jimmy W. Prescott (Joyce) and Raymond E. Prescott (Susan); nine grandchildren, Joel Foster (Maggie), Seth Foster (Bethany), Daniel Foster (Sarah), Amy Sanchez (Moises), John Prescott (Katie), Mary Prah (Scott), Jesse Prescott, Bethany Prescott and Erica Prescott; eight great grandchildren, Nicholas Foster, James Foster, Rebecca Sanchez, Jose Sanchez, Marcos Sanchez, Diego Sanchez, Callie Prah and Bailee Prah; cousins, nieces, nephews, and church family.   Pallbearers will be his grandsons.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Walter Jacobsen Sunday School Class, Ordained Deacons of Wrens Baptist Church, and American Legion Post 229.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Wrens Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Wrens GA  30833 earmarked for the sign project.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday evening, May 19, 2017.
