Vera Jane Owens Templeton
Wrens, GA – Vera Jane Owens Templeton, 74, loving wife of 56 ½ years to Jack Templeton, entered into her eternal rest Saturday evening, July 28, 2018 at University Hospital in Augusta. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the Wrens United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. Friday afternoon, August 3, 2018 with Rev. Chad Watkins officiating.
The eldest of seven children born to the late Ola Mae Moon Owens and the late Vernon James “V.J.” Owens, Vera was a native of Harlem. As a young child, the family moved to Wrens and for the last 42 years made her home on Lamar Street. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1961, she married the love of her life in November of the same year. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church but after her marriage she served her Lord and Savior as a faithful member of Wrens United Methodist Church. Working as a Purchasing Agent for GA-TN Mining Company, a division of Hartz Mountain, Vera retired when the plant closed with over 30 years of service. She was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed fiction. On nice days, she could be found working in her flowers—gerber daisies being her favorite. Vera was best known in the community for “putting up with Jack” for so many years. From the outside looking in, she was the consummate sweet Southern lady. However, from the inside looking out she was a feisty, “worry wart” who allowed her sense of humor to shine. Vera had a genuine love for all people but was drawn to children and babies. She also loved all of her “fur babies”. Vera was most content and happiest to be with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandson, who was the apple of her eye. Her death leaves a void that no one can fill; but her love leaves memories that no one can steal.
Other survivors include her two daughters, Debbie Dayton and Pam Williams; son-in-law, John Williams; two grandchildren, Kyle Dayton and Erika Francisco (Zach); great grandson, Jaxon Cook; six siblings, Mary Ann Johnson (Jimmy), Tommy Owens (Revonda), Joyce Williams (Jack), Darlene Williford, Jerry Owens and Joey Owens; a multitude of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor be made to the Wrens UMC Building Fund, 206 Russell Street, Wrens, GA 30833.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening, August 2, 2018.
