Velda Jean Usry Hadden
Gibson, GA – Velda Jean Usry Hadden, 80, loving wife of the late Denver Hadden, entered into her eternal rest Saturday morning, May 6, 2017 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, May 8, 2017, with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.
Born to the late Virginia Elizabeth McGahee Usry and the late Garvin Usry, Velda was raised in and around Stapleton where she attended school. At the age of 16, she quit school in order to help support her family and began working at Stapleton Garment Company, retiring when it closed with over 35 years of service. Marrying the love of her life at the age of 22, they made their home in Avera where she served her Lord and Savior in the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. An industrious worker, she loved working outside in her yards keeping the grass and shrubbery cut, and “babying” her pear tree. She was also a great cook and loved to bake. Her sweet, friendly, loving spirit made her quick friends with everyone she met. Not having children, she loved her nieces and nephews as her own. Having spent the last ten years in nursing homes—Thomson and Gibson—she was thankful for visits from her family and friends. Velda is now in God’s glory and reunited with her loved ones.
Velda was also preceded in death by her siblings, C. L. Usry, Jody Reese and Gerald Usry. Survivors include her siblings, Garvin Usry Jr. (Edith), Earl Usry, Wayne Usry (Barbara Ann), Joann Wren and Jeannine Stevenson (Norman): a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be her nephews--Delton Hadden Jr., Chris Usry, David Usry, James Usry, Phil Usry and Bob Wren.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to your favorite charity in Velda’s memory and honor.
Heartfelt thanks and appreciation is extended to Dr. James Sheppard and the staff at Gibson Health and Rehab for their loving, compassionate care.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening, May 7, 2017.
