Troy Hadden
Avera, GA – Troy Hadden, 88, loving son, brother and friend, entered into his eternal rest Friday morning, May 14, 2021 at his residence. Graveside services will be held in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, May 16, 2021 with Edward C. James officiating.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
One of ten born to the late Dora Bell Rabun Hadden and the late Joseph Marshall Hadden, Troy grew up in Avera. After graduating from Avera High School, he served a short stint in the Army, returning home to help on the family farm. He then moved to Florida to join his sister and her family in their propane business. Retiring at the age of 62, he moved back home to Avera in 1995. Lovingly known as the “Sheriff of Avera”, Troy loved the people of Avera and always wanted to know what was going on in the community which is why he spent a lot of time in downtown Avera—at least twice a day until his health declined. He also liked being outdoors and working in his vegetable garden, especially his tomatoes. Troy has been described as being very independent and strong-willed, with a jolly attitude—he was always positive and saw the good in people and life. Troy was very considerate of others and their feelings. He was especially thankful for his sister, Barbara, and sister-in-law, Wilma, for their love and care. A believer, Troy trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was thankful for His saving grace. Pain-free and with a new body, he is now in his Heavenly home.
Troy was also preceded in death by eight of his siblings, Marshall Hadden, Edward Hadden, John Hadden, Jerry Hadden, Lois Leland, Jessie McGahee, Betty Irby and Mary Rooks. Those left to cherish his memories include his sister, Barbara J. Sammons; sister-in-law, Wilma Hadden; a multitude of nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends after the service in the home of Barbara Sammons.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 55, Avera GA 30803.
