Tillie Callahan Johnson
Wrens, GA – Tillie Callahan Johnson,104, loving wife of the late David Johnson, entered into her eternal rest Thursday night, June 1, 2017 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon, June 3, 2017, with Pastor Ronnie Dixon officiating.
One of six children born to the late Jane Pratt Callahan and the late Dahl Callahan, Tillie was born and raised in Viper, Kentucky. She worked as a waitress at the Kentucky Derby before moving in the mid 1940’s to Miami where she made her living as a seamstress. In 2000, she moved to Wrens to live with her beloved daughter. When her health declined in 2011, she became a resident of Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Tillie was very artistic and creative and could be found working with her hands—gardening, cooking crocheting, etc. In her early years at Gibson Health and Rehab, she crocheted afghans for many of the residents and loved playing Bingo. She always had a fondness for animals. After moving to Wrens, she served her Lord and Savior at Fellowship Baptist Church and then attended services at the nursing home. Tillie lived life to its fullest, always looking and finding the best in people. Having a servant’s heart, she found fulfillment when helping others and attending to their needs. Tillie loved her family and was most content in their presence. Her death leaves a void that no one can fill, but her love leaves memories that no one can steal.
Tillie was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Donna Hickman; great granddaughter, Cindy Cox; and all five of her siblings. Survivors include her daughter, Jean Wade; three grandchildren, Linda Bailey (John), Patty Adams (David) and Lisa Williams (Charles); nine great grandchildren; and twenty great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon, June 3, 2017, prior to the services.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the staff of Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate, loving care shown to Tillie during her residence there.
