SUSIE B SENSENIG
The tenth child of the late Alice Brubaker Sensenig and the late Amos Sensenig, Susie B Sensenig was born December 12, 1957, in Port Trevorton, Pennsylvania. Six months ago, she was unexpectedly diagnosed with gastric cancer and left to meet her Savior on Wednesday evening, December 21, 2022. Funeral services will be held in the Pinecrest Mennonite Church at 10:30AM Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:30PM Monday evening, January 2, 2023, at Pinecrest Mennonite Church.
Susie had a very busy childhood with her family on a farm—milking cows, planting, maintaining and harvesting vegetables, butchering, and, at times, driving 4 or 5 horses at a time in the fields. She received her education in a one room schoolhouse in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, then went on to teach all 8 grades for 11 years with anywhere from 7 to 30 students. Her daughter joined her home in 1990, and many dear babysitters helped to take care of her while Susie worked.
At the age of 32 she accepted God as her Savoir and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 3, 1991, by Henry Brubacher, Morning Star congregation, Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania. Days in PA were spent cleaning houses, working at a bulk food store, and gathering eggs at many chicken barns. She and her daughter would often move into others homes for weeks at a time when they would go on vacation. In the evenings, she would quilt for a quilt shop in Dover, Delaware or do ironing for a local doctor and his wife. She was part of the Mifflinburg congregation until November 1997, when she moved her family to Pinecrest congregation in Georgia. She worked at the Lil’ Dutch House for 17 years and then at the Louisville bakery for 7 ½ years. She loved her customers and enjoyed the delight on their faces when she handed them the breads and baked goods.
Left to cherish her memories is one daughter, Darlene Sensenig of West Point MS; four brothers, Clyde and Martha Ann of Scottsville KY, Paul and Phyllis of Holland KY, Amos and Martha of Richfield PA and John of Versailles MO; seven sisters, Edith Mazelin, Mary and Harry Habegger, Edna and Ervin Miller, Emma and Daniel Miller, Mabel and Elvin Miller, Martha and Micheal Weaver, all of Scottsville KY, and Irene and Mark Miller of Bedford PA; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Nelson of Versailles MO; one aunt, Anna Brubaker of Mount Pleasant Mills PA; one uncle, Samuel and Irene Sensenig of Leonardtown MD; dear neighbors/family Douglas and Ruthy Unruh of Avera; seventy (70) nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Ammon; a brother-in-law, Earl Mazelin; nephew, Elvin; two nephews-in-law, six little angel nieces and nephews, and many uncles and aunts.
