Born on March 20, 1932, Susie was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. After graduating from Wrens High School in 1950, she married the love of her life and enjoyed 70 wonderful years together until his passing in November 2020.
A homemaker known for creating a loving and comfortable safe-haven for her family, Susie's dedication extended beyond the home as she worked as a seamstress for 17 years at Thomson Company and later held various local jobs including at a position at Glit. Alongside her husband, she was instrumental in the successful operation of their farm and country store.
Susie's faith was central to her life; having accepted God's salvation through Jesus at a young age, she devoted herself to serving at Waldens Methodist Church before transitioning to Zoar Methodist Church with her family, where she had become their oldest member. Described as having a sweet, loving, and humble spirit, Susie was known for her wisdom, hard work ethic, and efforts to maintain peace in all relationships. Her deep love for family shone through everything she did, making family her top priority alongside her devotion as a wife and mother.
In her leisure time, Susie cherished being with her family at home and enjoyed shopping both in stores and via mail-order catalogs. She eagerly anticipated receiving new catalogs and spent hours perusing through them with joy.
Susie is survived by her grandchildren Darrin Fox (Sebrina) and Sean Fox; great-grandchildren Shelby Wagner (Jake), Drew Fox (Cameron), and Trevor Fox; great-great-grandchildren Nora Wagner and August Wagner; sister Nelda Williams (Jimmy); daughter-in-law Diane Purvis; nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and a host of friends. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Darrin Fox, Drew Fox, Trevor Fox, Randy Rhodes, Daniel Prickett and Grayson Rhodes.
She now reunites in eternal peace with her beloved husband John "Weldon" Purvis Jr., her loving son Andy Purvis; parents Mattie Lou Williams Rooks and Aaron Jeremiah Rooks; and brothers Kenneth Rooks and Travis Rooks.
The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the church she loved—Zoar Church, c/o Frankie Kitchens, 3033 Quail Farm Road SW, Thomson GA 30824.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their loving, compassionate and professional care given to Susie during the last six months of her beautiful, sweet life.
In memory of Susie Marilyn Rooks Purvis's legacy of love and devotion to family, may we all strive to carry forward the values that she held dear.
