Susan Elizabeth Berry Padgett

Stapleton, GA  –         Susan Elizabeth Berry Padgett., 59, loving mother of Calvin “Cody” Williams, entered into her eternal rest Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2020 at her residence.  Because of the current ordinances regarding COVID-19 and the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety, the family has chosen to hold a celebration of life service at a later date.  They ask that you acknowledge her passing  with your thoughts and prayers for the family.

Daughter of the late Nannie Lee Jackson Berry Spinks and the late James Lafon Berry Sr., Susan was born and grew up in Augusta and was a 1978 graduate of Hephzibah High School. She worked as a Parts Manager at Wren Handling for many years. After marrying, she moved to Avera in 1996 and worked at Flash Foods in Louisville. More recently, she worked as the chef at Silver Linings Personal Care Facility for five years until her health decline.  Susan loved being outdoors—fishing, gardening, being at the lake—just being outside soothed her soul. Always singing or humming, she had a great singing voice and was in a band in her younger years.  She was a GREAT cook and loved feeding people, especially her son, Cody.  Having an out-going personality, people were drawn to her loving, giving spirit.  She has been described as being so very sweet and always thinking of others before herself.  Most of all, she loved her son more than life itself.  Susan was frugal and did not have a lot of material things; however, she considered herself rich because of the joy and pleasure Cody gave her.  No one can fill the void that has been left, but her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who remain.

Susan is also preceded in death by her siblings, Vicky Lynn Berry and Thomas “Buddy” Berry. Others left to cherish her memories include her brother, Jimmy Berry (Kay); nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindnesses evidenced in thought, deed and prayer.

Because of their sudden loss, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers or food, memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home, P.O. Box 588, Wrens GA 30833.
