Steven Michael James

July 14, 1965 — August 14, 2024

Blythe, GA

Steven Michael James, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully transitioned into his eternal home in Heaven on August 14, 2024, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. The family will receive friends at Blythe Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2024 from 2:00-3:00PM followed by funeral services at 3:00PM with Rev. Wade Sosebee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born on July 14,1965, Steven was a lifelong resident of the Hephzibah-Blythe area and a 1983 graduate of Hephzibah High School. Shortly after graduating, Steven began his career with Jefferson Electric Company, now known as Jefferson Energy Cooperative. His dedication to his work was evident as he spent many years at the Hephzibah office until his health began to decline in 2006. A courageous fighter, Steven battled cystic fibrosis from a young age. In a testament to his unwavering strength and determination, he received a double lung transplant in 2014, exceeding the doctors' expectations for his survival.

Steven’s life was filled with love and joy. In 1998, he met the love of his life while they were both working at Jefferson Energy. Their bond grew strong, leading to their marriage on January 8, 2000. Together, they built a family that he cherished deeply. Steven found immense pleasure in his role husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren filled his heart with joy.

A devoted believer, Steven worshipped his Lord and Savior in the fellowship of Blythe Baptist Church. He was known for his moral integrity, honesty, generous spirit, and always being willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His vibrant personality shone through his great sense of humor, characterized by an extremely dry wit. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained strong and rarely complained, serving as an inspiration to his family and friends.

Outside of his professional life, Steven had a passion for the outdoors. He loved to fish, relishing the tranquility that came with each cast. Working in the yards and spending time outside brought him great satisfaction. In his younger years, when health permitted, he enjoyed the freedom of riding his motorcycle.

Steven is preceded in death by his step-father, Marion Turner; and his brother, Randy James. He leaves behind a loving family including his devoted wife, Barbara Reeves James; daughters, Katelyn McFeely (Pat) and Alysha Bailey (Courtney); grandchildren, Hunter Kase McFeely and Teagan Reese McFeely; his mother, Mae Edwards Turner; father, Sammy James; siblings, Lori Gregory, Pam Cooper (Bruce), Karen Lariscy, and Kevin Turner (Jenny); and in-laws, Larry and Alice Reeves. He is also remembered by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and his cherished church family and friends. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Tim Ball, Courtney Brown, Monroe Click, Carl Jordan, Patrick McFeely, Aaron Turner, Brandon Turner and Jeremy Turner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (see below) or to the Georgia Transplant Foundation through their website www.gatransplant.org or by mailing your donation to 2201 Macy Drive, Roswell GA 30076.
