Sonya Faye Rooks Usry
Stapleton, GA – Sonya Faye Rooks Usry, 78, loving wife of 55 years to the late Jesse “Algernon” Usry, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday morning, June 23, 2021 at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, June 26, 2021 with Reverend Doug Mays officiating. Interment will follow in the Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avera Georgia.
One of ten children born to the late Pauline Faglier Rooks and the late James Lamar Rooks, Sonya was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and was a graduate of Wrens High School. A woman of faith, she served her Lord and Savior as a member of Waldens United Methodist Church in Avera. A musician, she was a singer and pianist and loved to use her talents for His glory. She had an absolute, unwavering, unconditional love for her family. Sonya has finished her course and kept the faith; she is now experiencing Glory in Heaven with her beloved Algernon.
Sonya was also preceded in death by her siblings, Voncile Rooks, James “Buddy” Rooks, Ethredge Rooks, Joyce Dixon, Jimmie Clark, Shelby Harden and John Owen Rooks. Others left to cherish her memories include her children, Andrea Usry, Keith Usry and Rhonda Smith (Bobby); two grandchildren, Chandler Smith and Sadie Smith; two sisters, Wiladean Kuykendall and Virginia Stanfield; special cousin, Margaret Rooks; cherished friend, Jean Huddleston; other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers John Mays, Matthew Mays, Barry Rooks, Tim Rooks, Chandler Smith, Jim Stanfield and Joey Stanfield. Honorary pallbearer will be her caregivers—Mattie Burton, Cristol Geisik, Mae Kelly, Ciara Mack, Deidra Tilman and Jeannette Thompson.
Heartfelt thanks and appreciation from the family is extended to Dr. James Pilcher and the staff at Jefferson Hospital for the wonderful, loving and professional care given during Sonya’s final hospitalization.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home Friday evening, June 25, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
The family will gather at the home of Rhonda Smith, 217 Trafalgar Street, Wrens GA.
