Shirley Ann Corley Stewart

Shirley Ann Corley Stewart, 89, entered into rest at her residence Thursday, January 30, 2025. 

Born to the late Ogle Kitchens Corley and the late Elwin Corley, she grew up in Burke County and graduated from Waynesboro High School. In 1957, she married James Stewart, and the two were blessed with 48 years of marriage. 

While Shirley only briefly worked at Savannah River Plant, she often reflected on the job's contentment and satisfaction. She left this job for the higher calling of homemaking, where she raised her three sons and supported her husband as they worked on their family farm. She later had the joy of being able to care for her grandchildren. 

She enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Shirley will be remembered for her incredible generosity, strong sense of family, and her steadfast reliance on the Lord. 

Surviving are her two sons Denny Stewart (Tracey) and Jay Stewart; grandchildren Christopher Stewart (Lauren), Phillip Stewart (Michelle), Emily Brinkmann (Bret), Cayce Stewart; and step-grandson Ken Nguyen; great-grandchildren Caroline Stewart, Catherine Stewart, Corbin Stewart, Collins Brinkmann, Barrett Brinkmann; step-grandchild, Ronnie Presnell; her four siblings, nieces, nephews, and other extended family. 

Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, James Stewart; son Pat Stewart, and granddaughter Linsey Stewart. 

Shirley’s family would like to thank her caregiver, Joy Hillman, and Trinity Hospice staff, especially for their excellent care and support. 

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 2:30 PM at James Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Matthews.  The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Clay Daughtery, Jim Gay, Scott Hozey, Tom Hozey, Alan Rabun, Troy Stewart, Dennis Wheeler, and Joey Wheeler. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
