Ruth Johnson Templeton
Matthews, GA – Ruth Elizabeth Johnson Templeton, 88, loving wife of the late Marvin J. Templeton, entered into her eternal rest Saturday morning, April 28, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 2018 with Reverend Ed Chance officiating. Interment will follow in the Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.
One of eight children born to the late Fannie Mae and Rufus Samuel Johnson, Ruth was a lifelong resident of Matthews where she attended school and graduated high school. She married the love of her life at a very young age and was a homemaker for her beloved family. After her husband suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed, she started work as a seamstress at Stapleton Garment Company, working there for 30 years until it closed. Ruth then worked as a health service technician at Gracewood until 1994 when she retired for medical reasons. She enjoyed cooking but loved to bake. As a side job and hobby, she opened Ruth’s Cake House beside her home where she baked all sorts of goodies but was known for her wedding cakes. In her spare time, she loved puzzle books—Word Find and Crossword—needle point and sewing. Her favorite pastime was watching her soap operas and wrestling. Her jolly personality caused people to gravitate to her. She loved to laugh and always found the humor in life’s situations. The most important aspect of her life was her family whom she loved unconditionally. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Above all else, Ruth loved her Lord and Savior, serving Him as a member of Faith Evangelist Church until her health decline. Even though Ruth has left to sojourn to her eternal home, her loving spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Ruth is also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Linda Banks; and five siblings, David Johnson, Judson Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Jack Johnson and Jeannette Skinner. Survivors include her daughters, Frances T. Shelton, and Patsy Banks (Ray); two siblings, Nell Reynolds (George) and Billy Johnson; two grandchildren, Ann Gay (Jimmy) and Steve Shelton; two great grandsons, Dale Shelton and Keith Shelton; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Georgia State Patrol Post 21, Sylvania, will serve as pallbearers.
Heartfelt appreciation and thanks are extended to Dr. Polhill, her primary physician for many years, Julie Nickels, her care giver, Kathryn Bell and Richard Pate, her hospice nurses, and the staff at Heartland Hospice, for their loving, compassionate care.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Monday afternoon, April 30, 2018.
