Russell Levi Callaway
Avera, GA – Russell Levi Callaway, 90, loving husband of the late Agnes Hadden Callaway, entered into his eternal rest Friday afternoon, September 11, 2015 at Georgia Regents Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00A.M. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Veer officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
One of five children born to the late Adell Rimes Callaway and the late Charles Capus Callaway, Russ was born in Morriston FL but grew up in Williston FL where he graduated high school. He proudly served our country in the Army during WWII. While stationed in FL, he came home with a buddy to Avera where he met the love of his life—he would drive eight hours on Friday evenings and drive back late Sunday evenings just to spend time with his girl. They married in 1954 and moved to Augusta where he worked in the maintenance department at E.I. DuPont for over 30 years. In 1973, the family moved to Avera, living in his wife’s childhood home. Russ was a “piddler” and loved working with his hands, building sheds and helping neighbors with their projects. His favorite activities were camping and fishing, and could often be found at the area Jet stores playing the lotto and talking with friends. He loved the country life, planting a huge vegetable garden, working with his hogs, and tending his pecan trees. Russell loved his Lord and faithfully served him at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. This quiet, unassuming man with a sweet, gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
Russell is also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen C. Washington; and all of his siblings, Alene Collins, Mary Zetrouer, Leon Callaway and Rubye Irby. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy C. Moore; three grandchildren, Craig W. Moore, Mary Moore and Rusty Washington; six great grandchildren, Craig W. Moore Jr., Courtney M. Moore, Brianna H. Osborne, Kayla L. Osborne, Alee Washington and Rustin Washington; and many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Beasley, Jimmy Black, Wade Brooks, Anthony Clark, Norman Pittman and Lindy Williams.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM Monday evening, September 14, 2015.

To Those Whom I Love
When I am gone, release me and let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that I have had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love each have shown
But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part
So cherish the memories in your heart.
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can not see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All of my love around you soft and clear.
Then, when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and a “Welcome Home”.
