Rubye Louise Kitchens Reese, 85, loving wife of the late John Henry Reese, entered into her eternal rest Saturday afternoon, August 12, 2023 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the Bethel Methodist Church, Gibson, at 11:00 AM Thursday morning, August 17, 2023, with the Reverend Timothy Kitchens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
One of five children born to the late Eula Mae Newman Kitchens and the late George Franklin Kitchens, Rubye was a lifelong resident of the Jefferson/Glascock County area. After attending Stapleton High School, she married the love of her life and started her family. Nine years later, she experienced the sudden loss of her husband in a tragic accident. Having a talent for sewing and having to raise her six children, she worked as a seamstress. Rubye was a member for 30+ years at Stapleton Baptist Church until her health decline. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed her puzzles, watching westerns and The Waltons on TV. She had a great love for all animals and had many fur babies. Rubye was a sweet, caring and genuine lady and liked to share a great sense of humor. She had an absolute and great love for all of her family. She looked forward to holidays when the whole family came and ate together—it made her heart brim over with love and joy. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her will miss her beautiful smile and her kind, loving, gentle spirit.
Rubye is also preceded in death by her son, Billy Reese; and siblings, George Kitchens, Sara Shelton and Albert Kitchens. Those left to cherish her memories include her children, John Reese (Pam), Wanda Boatright, Charles Reese, Brenda Screws (Thomas) and Michael Reese; twelve grandchildren, Kristy Hardesty (Zach), Devin Reese, Kevin Reese (Nickie), Adam Boatright (Natalie), Sherri Boatright, Nicole Watts, Lace Reese, Jeremy Reese, Jeremiah Reese, Thomas Screws Jr., Jennifer Scruggs (Chris) and Michelle Reese; seventeen great grandchildren, brother, Lamar Kitchens (Nancy); daughter-in-law, Becky Reese; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
