Randy Ray Mock
Avera, GA – Randy Ray Mock, 51, entered into his eternal rest Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00PM Saturday, January 9, 2016 with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in the Goloid Baptist Church Cemetery in Sylvania.
One of six children born to the late Betty Jane Doyle Mock Messer and the late Claude Watson Mock, Randy was raised in Screven County near Sylvania and Burke County near Waynesboro, moving from the area at age 18 to Mobile AL for work opportunities. Being a painter, he worked in construction, following the job to different places in Alabama. He worked hard and he played hard. Due to health issues involved after a fall from the roof on a job site, he moved to Avera to live with his sister. Becoming totally disabled and as his health further declined, he then moved to Thomson with his other sister who was able to more readily tend to his health needs. Having a generous spirit, Randy was always willing to help anyone any way he could. His strong, independent nature was tested in the last years when he was the one who had to rely on others. A people-person, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger. He leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends.
Randy is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Wayne Allen Mock and Claude Watson Mock, Jr. Survivors include his three sons, Randy R. Mock Jr., Ricky Mock and Richard Mock; two step daughters, Nicole Redd and Jennifer Rabun; three sisters, Shirley A. Taylor (James), Annette Bolton (Wendell) and Susie Hall (Earnest); his companion, Kathy Whitaker; mother of his children, Karen Collins; eleven grandchildren, Ian, Addison, Bryson, Lexi, Ricky, Malinda, Jerry, Khloe, Miles, Ethan and Alyssa; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 1:30-3:00PM prior to the services Saturday afternoon, January 9, 2016.
