Patricia Mahaley Gay Murphy
Thomson, GA – Patricia Mahaley Gay Murphy, 69, wife of the late William Hampton Murphy Sr., entered into her eternal rest Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at University Hospital in Augusta. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Purvis Community Center, formerly known as Purvis School House, at 12:30 P.M. with Rev. Ralph Kitchens officiating.
One of two children born to the late Essie Katie Newsome Gay and the late Johnny Lee Gay, Patricia was a native of Washington County but grew up in Jefferson County, moving to McDuffie County in 1974 when she married. She worked as a seamstress for Moxley Manufacturing. She enjoyed sewing, fishing hunting and working with the farm animals—she loved the country life. Patricia was a friendly, out-going person who could be found helping others in any way she could.
Survivors include her daughters, Emily E. Howell (Wayne) and Beatrice M. Floyd (Lewis); a brother, Richard Gay; six grandchildren, John Howell, Dewey Howell, Chris Howell, Hampton Floyd, Mahaley Floyd and Pierce Floyd; and a great granddaughter, Christina Ann Howell.
The family will receive friends at Purvis School House after the services Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2015.
