Nancy Carol Gibson Usry, born on February 9, 1943, peacefully transitioned into her eternity on November 28, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A cherished soul, Nancy spent her formative years in Thomson until her family moved to Wrens during her teenage years. She graduated from Wrens High School in 1961 and later made Stapleton her beloved home in 1972.
Nancy was a woman of remarkable strength and determination, attributes she demonstrated notably throughout her life, particularly during a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Her unwavering spirit was an inspiration to those who knew her and loved her.
She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, nurturing her relationships and creating lasting memories through her hobbies. An avid gardener, she found joy in tending to her plants, and her creative spark flourished through crafting. She also enjoyed shopping and treasured the moments spent fishing, often sharing these experiences with her loved ones.
Nancy's legacy will live on through her children: Phillip R. Johnson (Stephanie), Maria McKenzie (Leonard), Johnny Usry, and Bob Usry (Lisa). She adored her grandchildren, including Elizabeth Jones, Casey Johnson, Ashley Harden (Blain), Britney McKenzie, Kortney McKenzie, Kaley Usry, and Cody Usry (Krista). Nancy is also survived by her siblings, John "Buddy" Gibson (Louise) and Jane Chance (Ed), along with great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her memory dear. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Everett Guy, Blain Harden, Jeff Herndon, Jason Irby, Brandon Josey and Robert Sutton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bobby" Lewis Usry, as well as her parents, Mildred McDonald Gibson Hayman and Johnny Gibson. Nancy is also reunited in spirit with her siblings, Helen Elizabeth Schraer and Jimmy Hayman.
Visitation will take place on December 6, 2024, beginning at 12:30 PM at James Funeral Home in Wrens, Georgia. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jeremy Kelley officiating, after which Nancy will be laid to rest during the interment at Stapleton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
