Mildred Martin Stapleton Jordan, 98, a cherished member of the Wrens community, peacefully entered into her eternity at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Entering this world on March 1, 1926 and departing on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Mildred's journey on this Earth was marked by resilience, love, and a deep appreciation for life.
Mildred's love story with her devoted husband, Ray Jordan Jr., was one that inspired many. Together, they ventured into the world of entrepreneurship by co-owning and operating Western Auto from 1954 to 1969. Following this chapter, Mildred embarked on a new career path with Barrett Industries, where she excelled as their Comptroller until her well-deserved retirement.
Throughout her life, Mildred remained rooted in her hometown of Wrens. A graduate of Wrens High School, she held a deep connection to her community and witnessed its evolution firsthand from a vibrant farming community to the town it is today. Mildred was known for her attention to detail, sharp memory, and unwavering commitment to beauty and perfection in all aspects of her life.
Mildred was passionate about her yard, planting and enjoying her flowers and growing and preserving her fruits and vegetables in the same tradition as her mother had. She considered cooking meals from scratch her hobby. Spending days fishing on the Savannah River and Clark Hill with Ray brought her the most joy as well as the many trips she took to the mountains with her daughter. She believed in being active each and every day, always seeking to make the most of that day and looking forward to the accomplishments and goals achieved.
Mildred is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward “Ray” Jordan, Jr. and her parents, Velva Ora Williams Stapleton and Thomas Martin Stapleton. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be forever cherished by her surviving family and friends that include her loving daughter, Jere Rae Jordan (Kevin St. John), as well as cousins, Allen Williams, William Avera, Christy Mostowy, and Brian Whitaker, her special cousin and every Sunday dinner companion, and his daughters, Katie and Shelby. Mildred's circle of loved ones also includes special friend Donnie Bailey, and companion and aide Lottie Neal with whom she shared many precious moments over the years, as well as other extended family members.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate a life well-lived will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Wrens Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Race Lariscy officiating. It will serve as a poignant moment for all who knew Mildred to come together and pay their respects to a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever live on in their hearts. Afterwards, friends and family are invited to her home to continue the celebration in the sharing of food, memories and fellowship.
As we bid farewell to Mildred Martin Stapleton Jordan, let us remember her for the strength she embodied, the love she shared, and the beauty she found in every moment. May her unwavering passion for life serve as a guiding light for us all during these times of remembrance and reflection.
