Melvis Williams Johnson

Avera, GA  –              Melvis Williams Johnson, 84, loving wife of the late John Curtis Johnson, entered into her eternal rest Sunday morning, September 20, 2015 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gibson.  Funeral services will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00A.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 with the Reverends Nathan Adams and Dwight DeNegly officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.

One of nine children born to the late Lula Hardin Williams and the late Lunzy Williams, Melvis was born and raised in Avera. She married her soul mate and moved to Augusta where she made her home until her health declined, moving in with her nephew in Avera and later joining the family at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gibson. She earned an associate degree and was a personal home health care provider and a homemaker.  Melvis loved her Lord and Savior and actively served Him at Sherwood Baptist Church until she was no longer able to attend. She devoted time to read her Bible, study the word, pray and worship God every day.  She found great pleasure in serving and taking care of her family, as well as planting and caring for her tomato and pepper plants and her pansies.  Melvis loved the color of pink with pink roses being her favorite flower. Having an easy-going personality, she had a sweet, loving, caring spirit.  Experiencing great loss and heartache, she faced each day with a peace and a confidence in the Lord, knowing He held her safe in His arms

Melvis is also preceded in death by her children, Jan Johnson and Diane Leggett; all of her siblings, Gladys Newsome, John Williams, James Williams, Bowdry Williams, Margie McGee, LaWanna Williams, Juanita Keen and Infant Williams; niece, Cheryl Keen; nephews, Fay Newsome, Edward Keen and Bruce Keen; and great nephew, Tim Keen, Jr.  Survivors include her nephews, Boyd Williams, Judson Williams, Craig Williams, Andy Williams, Mark Keen, Jim Keen, Tim Keen and Dwight DeNegly; nieces, Bobbie Wuest, Jamie Williams and LuAnn Williams; and close personal friends, Marie Creasy, Jannie Weathers, Daisy Cook, Thelma Epps and Jewel Pittman.  Pallbearers will be Bob Brooks, Chuck Cason, Rusty Keen, Norman Pittman, Thomas Weathers and Austin Williams.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bernard Pittman, 9581 Broad St, Avera GA 30803.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday evening, September 21, 2015.
