Melissa grew up in Stapleton and attended Wrens High School. After getting married, she moved to Aiken SC and started her family. She returned to live in this area in 2004. Melissa was a waitress at Lizard’s Thicket in Lexington SC and Harbor Inn in Augusta for many years. She then worked as a machine operator for Cardinal Health before her health decline. Accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior, Melissa attended Wrens United Methodist Church and Southside Baptist Church in Swainsboro. Melissa loved watching her son play baseball for the Jefferson County High School Warriors. She also enjoyed shopping and going to the beach and the mountains. Melissa loved music, especially gospel and country. She has been described as being determined and having an out-going personality who met people easily. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have a good time. A great cook, she found much pleasure in preparing meals for her family—she loved family get-togethers. Melissa loved her family unconditionally and was most content in their presence. The void left by her passing will never be filled, but her memories will forever remain in our hearts.
Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thelma and James Manning, and Faye Hackle. Those left to cherish her memories include her four children, Christina Gantt, Brittany Brazell, Travis Brazell and Christian Williams; parents, Gerald Allen Hillman Sr. and Jeraldine and Jerry Albea; siblings, Allen Hillman Jr. (Crystal) and Jennifer Lamb (Alvey); one grandson, Elijah Wrenn; paternal grandparents, Shirley and James Hillman; aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chase Braswell, John Manning, Brian Mosley, Mike Tripp, John Williams, and Jaquan Wrenn.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made the American Cancer Society, 901 Greene St, Augusta GA 30901.
