Mattie “Louise” Allen
Stapleton, GA – Mattie “Louise” Allen, 99, loving child of God, daughter, sister and friend to many, entered into her eternal rest Thursday afternoon, January 21, 2021 at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be held in the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, January 25, 2021 with Reverend John Jenkins officiating.
Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
The oldest of nine children born to the late Mattie Lee Rabun Allen and the late Albert Freeman Allen, Louise grew up in Jefferson County and graduated from Stapleton High School. She was a hard-worker—helping on the family farm—and very industrious. She worked for a while at Stapleton Garment Company before going into nursing in Augusta. After graduating nursing school, she used her nursing skills as a missionary in France for 10 years. Upon her return home, she worked at the University Hospital for a few years before transferring to Jefferson Hospital. After her retirement, she worked weekends at Gibson Nursing Home. Never marrying, she lived with her parents and was their care-giver for many years. Louise accepted Jesus at an early age and served Him at Gospel Chapel in Avera. She was devoted to her Lord and allowed the Holy Spirit to lead and guide her. Growing up during the depression, she was very frugal and thrifty. Loving to crochet and sew, she made all her clothes. Louise was a great cook and, being very close to her family, found much satisfaction and pleasure in preparing feasts for them. She has been described as being very independent and feisty, yet being so very nice and considerate—a good soul. Louise has now joined her family in Heaven, her eternal home, and is now reaping the fruits of her labor while she sojourned here on earth.
Louise was also preceded in death by her six siblings, Watson Allen, Ruth Herring, Aaron “Buddy” Allen, Georgia Allen, Anabelle Allen and Warren Allen. Those left to cherish her memories include her brother, John Allen (Charlotte); sister, Ester McKie (Alan); nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center for their professional, compassionate care.
