Mattie Frances Streetman, 76, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully at her home on March 2, 2024 and has now entered her eternal home in Heaven. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2024 at Keysville United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ed Chance officiating.
Born on August 22, 1947, Mattie spent her formative years in Keysville before embarking on a path that would touch the lives of many. After leaving for Geneva AL at the age of 15 to live with her sister, she later graduated from Geneva High School. Mattie then made her way to New York, where she dedicated over 30 years of service at a local hospital. Starting as a Certified Nursing Assistant, she eventually rose to the role of Shop Steward with Union Local 420 before choosing to move back to Keysville in 2003 to care for her mother.
Throughout her life, Mattie was known for her unconditional love for family and friends. Despite not having children of her own, she cherished and treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Her passion for the outdoors led her to find joy in fishing, tending to her garden, and “beautifying her yards”. She earned the nickname "Ms. Firecracker" among loved ones due to her witty and feisty nature.
Described as generous, loving, and a true people-person by those who knew her best, Mattie's kindness knew no bounds. Her warm heart and caring soul endeared her to many throughout the years.
Mattie is survived by siblings Elaine S. Walker, Wade Streetman, Jettie Streetman Jr., Russell Streetman, and Robert L. Streetman. She is also remembered by her special niece and caregiver, Wendolyn Vasquez (Rafael) and her god-son, Bobby Thomas III, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others whose lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents, Birda Mae Self Streetman and Jettie Streetman Sr., as well as siblings, Bobbie Swinton, Levy Streetman, Mary Ann Streetman, Edward Streetman and Daisy S. Jones.
Mattie was known for her remarkable journey through life, filled with love, dedication, and unwavering care for those around her. We celebrate a life well-lived; one defined by love shared with those around her and a legacy of compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
