Marvin Tobe Reese

Wrens, GA  –              Marvin Tobe Reese, 86, loving husband of 68 years to Bobbie Paul Reese, entered into his eternal rest Thursday afternoon, November 12, 2020 at his  residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, November 14, 2020 in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery with the Reverends Ray Jenkins and Carson Fellows officiating.

Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged.

One of eight born to the late Emma Belle Peebles Reese and the late Jerome Reese, Marvin was a lifelong resident of Wrens. He accepted God’s saving grace through his son, Jesus Christ, at 8 years old, joining the fellowship of Wrens Baptist Church where he faithfully served Him until he was no longer physically able to be in His house.  During those years, Marvin served as a Deacon, served on many church committees, taught Sunday School, and was Chairman of Ushers.  His favorite job was being the Sunday School greeter, which allowed him the opportunity to meet and know his fellow believers.  In 1952, after serving his country in the Army, Marvin opened a full-service service station—Reese Chevron and later Reese Auto Care.  This was truly a one-stop shop for all your car needs—gas, oil changes to repairing any mechanical problems.  (Even to this day, he did not believe that a woman should have to pump her own gas.) The “station” was his work and his hobby.  The only outside passion he had was for the Dixie Youth Baseball.  He sponsored—or as one young player announced, he “owned”—the Reese Chevron team who could be recognized by their red jerseys.  Marvin found much pleasure in attending the games and, throughout the years, invested in many young boys and girls through this organization.  Marvin loved Wrens and was very civic minded, serving many years on the city council as well as the Wrens Development Authority. A Southern gentleman, Marvin had an easy-going temperament—he was always the calm, logical voice. Generous to a fault, people recognized his genuine love and concern for them.  Marvin made the choice to allow Jesus’ love to be shown through him to those he came in contact.  His love for his family was absolute and unconditional. Marvin’s treasure was not in earthly possessions but in the relationships with his family, church family, and friends.  He now has a new pain-free body, has met his Savior face-to-face, and is worshipping Him in Glory.  We celebrate his home-going through our grief and sorrow.

Marvin is also preceded in death by his son, Bob Reese; and three siblings, Nancy Weathers, Garvin Reese and Ervin Reese.  Those left to cherish his memory also include his children, Barbara Reese Shepherd (ed) and Tony Reese (Sonya); four grandchildren, Reese Walden (Jackie), Austin Shepherd (Cheslee), Michael Reese (Mary Beth) and Rebecca James (Todd); nine great grandchildren, Payne Walden, Carter Walden, Bristol Walden, Whit Shepherd, Gage Shepherd, Laurel Reese, Lacey Reese, Chloe James and Easton James; four siblings, Elizabeth Windham (Doyle), Temus Reese (Shirley), David Reese (Judy) and Butch Reese (Joanne); nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and friends.

The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers and food, memorial contributions be made to Wrens Baptist Church, PO Box 217, Wrens GA 30833 earmarked for Greater Things (Building Fund).

Heartfelt thanks are expressed to Regency Hospice staff, especially Nikki Taylor Whigham and Patsy Silas, for their professional, compassionate and loving care.
