Marian "Annette" Chalker Cook

Marian “Annette” Chalker Cook, 86, wife of the late Paul Lee Cook, left her earthly body Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at her residence. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the Mitchell Full Gospel Church at 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon, April 20, 2023 with the Reverend Kyle Downs officiating. The family will receive friends after the services.

Born to the late Estelle Blankenship Chalker and the late Marion Lee Chalker, Annette was a native of Wrightsville. Her family moved to Avera when she was a young girl. A 1954 graduate of Wrens High School, Annette met the love of her life at the age of 22 while on a double date in Atlanta. After a whirlwind romance, they married and started their family. Because of his job, they moved to Alabama, then to Roebuck SC, next to Duncan SC, before moving back home to Avera in 1987.  Being very family oriented, Annette was a homemaker and tried to make their home a loving, safe-haven for her family. She has been described as being a “protective mama”.  She suffered through life’s many losses which included her 10-year-old daughter’s death from an automobile accident in 1975 while living in Duncan SC, as well as her husband’s death in 1995 after moving back to Avera. Annette enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach, shopping, playing tennis,  reading and going out to eat. She was known to be a great cook and for her baking skills. Described as being loving and caring, she was considered a dependable friend.  Before marrying, Annette attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera and in Duncan SC, attended Duncan Methodist Church. Nothing can fill the void of her passing but the memories shared will live on in our hearts.

Annette is also preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia L. Cook; and siblings, M.L. Chalker Jr. and Margaret Raley. Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Debra L. Cook and Marion Cook; brother, Dan Chalker; grandson, Lawson Cook; other extended family, neighbors and friends.
