Lillian “Frances” Windom Griswell

Matthews, GA –          Lillian “Frances” Windom Griswell, 77, loving wife of 26 years to James Alton  Griswell, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Monday morning, January 17, 2022 at her residence. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, January 22, 2022 with Chaplain Jim King and Rev. Bernard Mason officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery.

Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed.  The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.

The second of four children born to the late Fannie May Barrow Windom and the late Earl Watson Windom, Frances was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and a 1963 graduate of Wrens High School.  She was a production worker at Glit Inc. retiring with 20 years of service.  Frances was known for her shopping prowess—she loved to go to flea markets but her favorite excursions was buying clothes and shoes.  A people person, she loved family gatherings and especially enjoyed her class reunions so that she could keep up with everyone. Her favorite thing to do was to go out to eat—she was well-known at Angie’s for ordering the quail and steak.  A simple, humble person, Frances had a sweet, pleasant personality and loved everyone.  She had a giving spirit and would help anyone in whatever way she could, sometimes to her detriment.  Frances accepted God’s free gift of salvation through His son, Jesus, at an early age while attending Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Woodland Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class, and in the past five years attended The Lighthouse Church.  Frances had an absolute, unfailing love for her family and was most content in their presence.  She was especially thankful for the love of her husband and grateful for his loving, tender care administered to her during her illness. Frances has completed her journey on Earth and now, with a new, pain-free body, is forever worshipping her Lord and Savior.

Others left to cherish her memories include her son, Charles W. May (Angela); step children, Lisa Jones (Jackie), Lora Neal, Chris Mallie (Jan), Greg Griswell (Keri) and Stacie Griswell;  three siblings, Margaret Lott, Freddie Windom and Kenneth Windom (Rhonda); grandchildren, Jennifer Josey (Lewis), Brandon May, Susanna Jones, Daniel Jones, Isaac Neal, Sophia Neal, Michelle Mallie, Yvonne Mallie, Heleen Mallie, Lexi Mohney, Harrison Mohney, Casey Peek and Emily Lowe; great grandchildren, Conner, Rachel, Logan, Maislynn and Malachi; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Dillon Griswell, Greg Griswell, Jay Marshall, Charlie Reese, Russell Tharpe and Brian Thigpen.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 12:30-2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 22, 2022, prior to the service.
