Larry Wayne Williams, 69, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, peacefully transitioned into the arms of his heavenly father at his home surrounded by his family early Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024. A native of Avera, Larry was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from an early age and a graduate of Stapleton Academy. While in high school, he met his soulmate, sharing 51 years of marriage filled with love, laughter and companionship. Rarely apart, their bond inspired all who knew them.
Larry worked at JM Huber as a mechanic and supervisor for 30 years, retiring at the age of 49. He was very industrious and stayed busy—he was never idle. After retiring, he went on to do several other jobs of his choosing—doing things he enjoyed like long-haul trucking, tire and alignment service, hauling peanuts for Bobby and Stevie Williams, etc. He used his creative abilities to make a home—not just a house—for his family. With remarkable ingenuity, there were very few things he could not fix or build. Larry mastered various skills and hobbies, including racing go-karts and cars. Despite diverse pursuits, his family remained the most important. A family man through and through, he always looked forward to “family night” each week where they would come together, talk about their week and just enjoy each other’s company. He also enjoyed camping trips with his family and friends. These were some of his favorite times and these cherished memories will forever live on in their hearts. Larry was soft-spoken, yet impactful: his words commanded attention. He was a simple, humble man and his kindness earned him lasting friendships. His legacy lives on through the countless hearts he touched, leaving an indelible mark, especially on his children and beloved grandchildren.
Larry is Preceded in death by his parents, Alma Alexander Williams and Lamar S. Williams, Sr.; as well as his brother that he loved dearly, Lamar Williams, Jr. lovingly known by many as "Peanut".
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife, Kathy N. Williams; his children, Leslie W. Davis and her fiancée John Isaacson, and Karla E. Williams; his grandchildren that he loved dearly and was so proud of Kaylee A. Davis, Mason T. Davis, Kady E. Prescott and Kelsee A. Prescott. He will also be missed by other family members which include his sisters, Jan M. Williams and Brenda W. Moye; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Childrens Hospital of Georgia. Donations may be mailed to 1120 15th Street, Augusta GA 30912 or may be made online at https://foundation.wellstar.org/give-now/.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2024 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:30PM with the service commencing at 3:30PM officiated by John A. Jenkins.
