Larry McGraw, 76, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully transitioned into his Heavenly home early Tuesday morning, December 10, 2024, at Wellstar MCG in Augusta. Born on October 26, 1948, Larry’s life was one marked by love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to family and community.
Raised outside of Gibson, Larry attended Glascock County School where he completed the 11th grade before starting his industrious career at JEBCO in Warrenton. He later went to work at Deerfield Specialty Paper as a millworker until its closure, ultimately retiring from Powerflex. His strong work ethic remained evident even after retirement, as he continued to deliver parts for Giesbrecht HVAC and lent his skills to friends in the funnel cake business, traveling to rodeos and various events.
Larry's personality was defined by his fun-loving spirit and willingness to share a joke, bringing joy to those around him. He was loyal and deeply devoted to his family, embracing his role as a husband and father with unparalleled affection. A faithful servant to his faith, Larry accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and became an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. His love for family extended to his children and grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart.
A community-minded individual, Larry also contributed to local governance as a City Councilman. His interests were varied; he found joy in working outdoors, tending to his beloved vegetable garden where his tomatoes became known and treasured by many. He enjoyed maintaining his yard and flowers, fishing, and cooking for family and friends, often gathering them around the table for lively meals filled with great fellowship and laughter.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Clark McGraw; children, Melissa Evans (Glenn), Amy Hadden (Ronnie), and Brian McGraw; five grandchildren, Dylan Evans, Jackson Evans (Maleah), Amanda Coxville (Ben), Natalie McGraw, and Bryson McGraw; and four great-grandchildren, Carolina Coxville, Claire Coxville, Addie Evans, and Ava Evans. He also leaves behind two sisters, Debra Chalker (Pete) and Tammy Cash (Joe), along with extended family, his church family, and a multitude of friends. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Pete Chalker, Ben Coxville, Dylan Evans, Jackson Evans, Bryson McGraw and Nathaniel Newsome. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present Deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer McGraw; mother, Grace Kitchens McGraw Holton; step-father, James Holton; and sister, Robin Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at James Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30PM Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Larry McGraw’s legacy of love, work ethic, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
