Katie Kneece Myers-Carswell

March 16, 1934 — March 24, 2025

Hephzibah, GA

Katie Kneece Myers-Carswell, 91, beloved matriarch of her family, peacefully transitioned into her forever home in Heaven Monday afternoon, March 24, 2025, at the Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born on March 16, 1934, in Richmond County, Katie lived a life characterized by love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

Katie’s early education took place within the Richmond County School System, where she demonstrated her determined spirit by leaving school at the young age of 14 to marry her first love, John Myers. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication to her family. After spending many years in Jefferson County, she faced the untimely loss of her first husband, after which she remarried John Frank Carswell Sr. Moving to Hephzibah, Katie continued to be a steadfast force in her family’s life until the passing of her second husband. In 2014, she moved into St. John Towers in Augusta, and later transferred to the Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in 2020.

Throughout her life, Katie wore many hats. She worked various jobs as a nursing assistant, caregiver, and factory worker, yet her main focus was always her role as a homemaker. Family was her first priority, and she was known for her industrious nature that allowed her to create a warm and loving home for her loved ones.

Katie’s vibrant personality shone brightly in her interactions with others; she was feisty, independent, and always straightforward. She had a knack for making friends wherever she went, and her fun-loving spirit was infectious. A past member of Woodland Baptist Church, and later a member of Story Mill Baptist Church, Katie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, embodying her faith in every aspect of her life.

Her interests were deeply rooted in the joys of nature and family gatherings. She loved flowers and gardening, finding peace in her time outdoors working in her yard. Holiday celebrations like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and birthdays were cherished occasions filled with laughter and connection. Katie loved to travel when her health allowed, with her favorite outing being a simple trip to Wendy’s for a Frosty.

Katie is survived by her children, Ray Hampton Myers and Radie Myers Smith; three grandchildren, Amanda Clark (Jeremy), Megan Chasen (Wade), and Deanna Palmer (Cory); ten great-grandchildren, Maddie Clark, Jackson Clark, Brook Chasen, Alex Radford, Alaina Radford-Doyle (Ty), C.J. Palmer Jr., John Thomas Palmer, Conner Palmer, Kevin Palmer, and Zahra Palmer; two great-great-grandchildren, Thomas Doyle and Zaphira Palmer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will cherish her memory. Her grandchildren honors her as her pallbearers.

Katie was preceded in death by both of her husbands, John Henry Myers and John Frank Carswell Sr.; her parents, Nina Edgar Kneece and John Kneece; and all of her siblings, who have welcomed her with open arms in their eternal rest.

The family will greet family and friends at James Funeral Home Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM in the James Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Tony Key. Her grandchildren honor her as pallbearers. The interment will take place at Woodland Baptist Church after the services.

Heartfelt thanks go to the staff of the Keysville Nursing Home as well as Regency Hospice for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
