Mrs. Kathryn Hadden Samples

Wrens, GA.  – After a 9 ½ yr illness, Mrs. Kathryn Hadden Samples, 86, loving wife of the late George Thomas Samples Sr., left us to be with Jesus Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from Kentwood Care Facility. The funeral celebration will be held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 3:00PM with the Reverends Race Lariscy, J. Scott McKinney and Roy White officiating.  Interment will follow in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Born to the late Rosa F. and Cyrus W. Hadden, Mrs. Samples was a native of Jefferson County and a graduate of Avera High School and Southern Business University of Atlanta. She also attended Augusta College.  With over 28 yrs service, Mrs. Samples retired from US Civil Service at Fort Gordon GA where she received numerous US Army Outstanding Performance Awards as well as a Dept of the Army Civilian of the Month. She was an active member of Wrens Baptist Church where she was a member of Fidelis SS Class, Lois Whaley Women on Mission Group, and a regular at the Monday Morning Bible Study. She was instrumental in revitalizing the A.D. Howard Jr Memorial Library in the church where she served as Librarian for 16 yrs. She was also a member of Wrens Keenagers Club and the National Assoc of Retired Government Employees.  Miss Kathryn was a loving wife, dedicated mother, devoted grandmother and faithful friend to so many. She knew that because of Jesus, suffering is not a dead-end street called futility—God has a hand in it all; His hand is stronger than suffering or death and His presence gives meaning to both.
Mrs. Samples is also preceded in death by her sister, Christine Hadden Samples Sikkema, and sons-in-law, Dr. Michael Jennings Murphy and Amplus D. Howard, Jr. Survivors include her children, Judy Murphy Sechrist (Jim) of Augusta and George Thomas Samples, Jr. (Debi); 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren—Allison Samples Godowns (Trent) of Columbus and children, Savannah Grace, Mary Kathryn, Adelyn Rose and Ella Claire; Jenny Samples Kent (Matt) of Fort Campbell KY and children, Daisy Faith, Madison Joanne and Georgia Marie; Rosanne Kathryn Samples of Atlanta; Patrick J. Murphy of Scroon Lake NY; Matthew J. Murphy (Megan) of Augusta and Baby Boy Murphy; and Sarah Kathyrn Murphy  of Augusta and children Michael Thomas, Anna Elizabeth and Sean Patrick. Pallbearers will be Mike Adams, Gene Gay, Dean Hadden, Billy Lewis, Charles Milburn, Bobby Samples, Cy Samples, and Robert Samples. Serving as honorary pallbearers is the Fidelis Sunday School Class of Wrens Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home prior to the services from 1:30-3:00PM on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
