Johnny Oliver Thompson, 82, peacefully entered into his eternal rest early Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024 at PruitHealth-Evans.
Johnny was born in Stapleton on April 2, 1942 to the late Mary Key Thompson and the late William David Thompson. A patriot, he proudly served our country in the Marines from 1967 – 1969. He then worked as a machine operator for Kimberly Clark until his retirement at the age of 55. Johnny served his Lord as a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Besides his extended family, Johnny’s greatest loves were hunting, camping, and his German shepherd, Trooper. He loved talking with people so, of course, his prize possession was his phone, which was his “life line”.
Johnny was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Thompson Jr., Ben Thompson, David “Bud” Thompson and Edward Thompson; and his sisters, Bess Hobbs, Lucille Phillips, Gladys Howard, Bertha McTier Jay, Annabelle Seago, Jean Burton and Ruby Holley.
Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Scottie J. Thompson (Elaine) and Bryan C. Thompson (Nicole); grandchildren, Alexis N. Thompson, Jake A. Thompson and Emma Wren Thompson; a host of nieces and nephews, other extended family, church family and a wide variety of friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit and pay their respects at the graveside service at 11:00AM Monday morning, November 18, 2024, in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Rene Garcia officiating.
The family expresses a special thank you for the care and help of his neighbors, Bill Doolittle, Randy Waters and Barbara W. Thompson, who spent numerous hours running errands for him, taking him to doctor appointments, making sure he had food, talking and visiting with him, as well as paying bills. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude.
