CWO4 (Ret) John Taylor Peebles
Avera, GA – Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Retired) John Taylor Peebles, 75, loving husband of Shirley Ann Peebles, entered into his eternal rest early Sunday morning, October 4, 2015 at his residence. Celebration of Life services with full military honors will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00PM Saturday, October 10, 2015 with Chaplain Finley Limehouse officiating. In a private ceremony and as per his wishes, his cremains will be scattered at sea.
John was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania to the late Eleanor Prather Peebles and the late Taylor Peebles. Being a patriot, he joined the US Navy after graduating from Academy High in Erie. He proudly served our country during Vietnam, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 4 with over 29 years of service. He was plank owner of USS Alywin FF1081 as well as a lifetime member of NCOA. After retirement from the Navy, he worked in various jobs and lived in various parts of the U.S. before settling in Georgia to be close to his family. John was an avid NASCAR fan, was Georgia’s No. 1 Pittsburgh Steeler fan and had a vast collection of eagles, lighthouses and NASCAR memorabilia. He enjoyed country living—hunting, fishing and gardening—both flower and vegetable gardens. Family and friends will always remember his dry sense of humor. Being a very determined man, John took his responsibilities in life seriously—to his family, his country, his community, and his job. Above all else, he loved his family and was most content in their presence. John has left a legacy that will endure time.
John was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Tom Glass. Other survivors include his children, Darlene Nerich (Tom), John J. Peebles (Loretta), Michael P. Peebles (Liana), Harold A. Peebles, Sherry McCormack (Joe) and Michael Cook; two siblings, Sissy Glass and Tim Peebles (Kathy); mother of his children, Virginia B. Peebles; six grandchildren, Desiree Killian (James), Dakota Peebles, Jesse T. Peebles, Khristina Parks, Christopher Convery and Adrianna Cook; four great grandchildren, Bailey M. Killian, Paytonn Parks, Skylar Parks and Bailey Parks; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home one hour prior to services, starting at 11:00AM on Saturday, October 10,, 2015.
To honor our great country, John’s wish was that everyone attending the services wear patriotic colors or camo—not suits and ties.
John also requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the local hospice of your choice or to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America (ccfa.org).
