Services to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 4, 2021 with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. Because of the family’s respect and concern for public health and safety during this COVID-19 pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. The wearing of face masks is strongly encouraged during any gathering.
Loving son of the late Mary Elizabeth Burgess Medeiros and the late Joseph R. Medeiros, John was born and raised in Pawtucket RI. After graduating high school, he proudly served our country by joining the Army. He survived two tours in Viet Nam and retired at Ft. Gordon as a Staff Sergeant with twenty-three years of service. He then earned an Associated Degree at Augusta Tech after which he worked as an auto mechanic for 11 years with Richmond County Maintenance and then five years with CTS Fabricators. John started experiencing health problems and fully retired in 2001 at which time he moved to Wrens to be closer to his family. There he joined fellow veterans at American Legion Post 207. He enjoyed fishing and listening to country music. John had a great sense of humor and wanted everyone to laugh and have a good time. A great story-teller, he was always kept his family and friends entertained. Considered a good, loyal friend, he was always there to pick you up when you were down. Having an easy-going outlook and manner, John enjoyed a simple life full of love and laughter. Family was his first priority—he was happiest spending time with his family, especially his grands and great-grands who lovingly called him “Papa John”. Suffering from a myriad of health issues, John persevered because of his faith in the saving blood of Jesus Christ—he found solace, comfort and strength through his Savior, Redeemer and friend. We know that he is no longer suffering and will be forever pain-free in Glory
