Louisville, GA

John Maxwell Holt, 65, peacefully passed away on April 8, 2025, at Piedmont Summerville in Augusta. Born on March 28, 1960, in Goffstown, New Hampshire, John lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and livelihood.

A proud graduate of Con-Val High School in Peterborough, NH, John began his career as a dairy farmer in New Hampshire before making a significant move to New York. It was at church where he met the love of his life, Carol Anne Parker, whom he married in 1985. Together, they shared a strong bond that was enhanced when they relocated to Georgia in 1987 to assist John's brother, Curt, on his dairy farm. John's commitment to his work was evident as he worked with Curt until 1995, after which he transitioned to Buck Jones Nursery, where he served in maintenance and various roles, fulfilling tasks wherever he was needed.

John's personality was characterized by his quiet and humble nature, paired with a witty sense of humor and a propensity for deep thought. As a voracious reader, he had a particular fondness for the Bible, which played a fundamental role in his spiritual life. His commitment to his faith was made evident through his consistent attendance at Wednesday Bible study and Sunday worship services. He also valued time spent at church conventions, Gospel meetings, Special meetings and visits with his beloved ministers. Notably, John was known for his “Sunday letter,” a cherished tradition in which he wrote letters to family and friends every week for two decades, often sending out up to 50 letters on any given Sunday.

Throughout his life, John demonstrated a spirit of loyalty and generosity; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His dedication to family was paramount, and he relished in spending time surrounded by loved ones. Each moment spent with family and friends was treasured, and he fostered relationships that extended to his church family and acquaintances.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Carol Anne Parker Holt, along with five siblings, Velma Perkins (Peter), Judy Teixeira (Jorge), Curtis Holt (Beverly), Joan Holt, Jim Holt, and his twin, Joyce Holt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family, and friends. Those honored to be pallbearers include, Branden Anderson, Jacob Holt, Shane Holt, Perry Parker, Philip Parker and Cecil Wise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Velma Clintina Curtis Holt and Alvin Wood Holt Jr., and three siblings, David Holt, Richard Holt, and Linda Holt.
