Jerry "Peanut" Joe Watts

July 26, 1953 — April 21, 2024

Hephzibah, GA

Jerry "Peanut" Joe Watts, 70, peacefully transitioned to his eternity on April 21, 2024, at Wellstar MCG Medical Center in Augusta.  The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday evening, April 26, 2024 at James Funeral Home after which the service to celebrate his life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 P.M. with Chris James officiating.

Lovingly known as “Peanut” all of his life, he born to the late Agnes Hayes Watts and the late Billy Watts and was a lifelong resident of the Keysville/Hephzibah area.  He was a dedicated tile setter for over 50 years, working for various companies as well as pursuing his own projects—a job he loved dearly.

Born on July 26, 1953, Peanut was known for his strong and independent spirit. He marched to the beat of his own drum and earned respect for his loyalty and willingness to assist others in any way he could. A man of faith who embraced God's gift of salvation early in life, he fostered a deep and profound relationship with Jesus.

In his leisure time, Peanut found solace in the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he cherished the “pull on the line” as well as the tranquility of the fishing experience. He also loved hunting deer, as well as just watching and observing them. Peanut took pleasure in NASCAR racing, particularly as a devoted fan of Dale Earnhardt. Music held a special place in his heart, with a passion for various genres and a profound admiration for artists like John Fogerty and Van Gosdin.   A man of simple desires, he could be seen “riding dirt roads” while listening to music on the radio—he was constantly going from one station to another whenever he went anywhere.

However, Peanut’s most significant source of pride and joy was his family. He adored his grandchildren and shared a special connection with each one. His love knew no bounds.  He shared a birthday with Ellie while being involved in raising seven grandchildren and giving them each a piece of his heart.

Jerry "Peanut" Joe Watts is survived by his loving wife, Dale Newsome Watts; children: Jerry Joe Watts Jr. (Kitty), Tommy Wayne Watts, Nicole Watts, Lacey Reese, and Jamie Onley; sibling: Steve Watts (Christina), Don Watts (Norma Jean), Tony Watts, Randall "Toot" Hillis, Lisa Watts (Nick), and Billie Jo "Sister" Hillis; nine grandchildren: Kayla Bridgers (Tyler), Tommy Silver (Evelyn), Trevor Silver (Lauren), Paige Silver, Catlian Watts, Hannah Watts, Ellie Onley, Sophie Albea, ,and Easton Atkinson; six great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members along with numerous friends.   He was also preceded in death by four of his siblings, Greg Watts, Toby Watts, Chad Watts and Brenda Watts.

Because of the unexpected nature of their loss, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home by mailing a check to PO Box 588, Wrens GA or by clicking on the following link:  https://www.jamesfhwrens.com/resources/make-a-payment

In the memories shared by those whose lives he touched, Peanut will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted individual who selflessly gave of himself to others while finding joy in life's simple pleasures. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faithfulness, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest peacefully now, Peanut—"for God so loved you that did believe".
