Jeannette was born and raised in Westchester County, New York, and graduated from Mt. Vernon Technical School before working at the New York Foundling Hospital, serving children and the elderly.

Jeannette came to Wrens in 1961 to visit a former coworker, Violet Poole, who was married to Howard Poole, the 1st cousin of Earl “Jack” Terry. They introduced Jeannette and Jack in a cornfield on July 1st, and the love story began. She returned home to New York and they began corresponding. Jeannette received a telegram in May of 1962 stating “Cotton pickers needed in Georgia, come immediately. -Jack.” He proposed in early July. They married on July 29,1962 in Mt.
