Jawana Usry Arrington-Garrett
Matthews, GA – Jawana Usry Arrington-Garrett, 88, widow of the late Berry Doyle Arrington and wife to Felix Burkett Garrett, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Thursday evening, November 10, 2022 at home with her family at her side. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be conducted at the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery at 11:00 AM Monday, November 14, 2022, with the Reverend Marlin Scarboro officiating.
Jawana was born in Stapleton, and, after moving to Augusta with her parents, graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1954. She and Doyle began their journey in life together soon thereafter. She worked briefly at Southern Bell and the Medical College of Georgia until her love for her children led her to choose to become a fulltime homemaker. After their children left home, she earned her license as a realtor and embarked on her second career. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting, square dancing and painting.
Jawana was also preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Usry of Gibson and Kate Clark Usry of Augusta; her brother, Charles F. Usry Sr. of Hephzibah; and her sister, Barbara U. Williams of Hephzibah. Others left to cherish her memories include her children, Michael Arrington (Cathy), Keith Arrington (Stacy), and Karen A. Onley (John); her grandchildren, Lindsay Merchant (Joshua), Craig Arrington (Susan), Patrick Arrington (Kellie), Bradley Arrington, Kale Arrington, Katherine “Kassie” Arrington, Amanda Walden (Barrow), Kenneth Hughes (Katie); her great-grandchildren, Braxton Merchant, Keegan Merchant, Caroline Arrington, Brianna “Bree” Hopper (Josh), Treb Walden, Dalton Hughes and Addison Hughes; and brother-in-law, Lester Williams.
