Janice Amelia Prescott Dowdy
Wrens, GA – After a long, hard-fought battle with leukemia and with her family by her side, Janice Amelia Prescott Dowdy, 68, loving wife of 23 years to Bruce Miller Dowdy, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, April 21, 2016 at her residence. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 with the Reverends Carl Geisik and Race Lariscy officiating.
One of eight children born to the late Amie Lou Johnson Prescott and the late William Lee Prescott, Janice was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. A 1965 graduate of Wrens High School, she attended Augusta College and Emory University, majoring in accounting and business administration. Retiring with 20 years of service as the Safety Director for J. M. Huber Engineered Materials, she was a member of the Georgia Mining Association. She was also the past president of the Wrens Garden Club, which has since been disbanded. Janice was very active in serving her Lord and Savior—as a member of Wrens Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, the walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis. Having a servant’s heart, she was very generous—both with her time and monetarily—and loved helping people, especially young people. One of her greatest pleasures was being a Pink Lady at Jefferson Hospital where she found that it truly is better to give than to receive. She loved being home, especially in the country, where she enjoyed entertaining and decorating. Janice loved her family unconditionally. Her gift of a quick wit and great sense of humor made conversations with her very memorable, unique and fun. Knowing that God is truly sovereign, her faith in Jesus Christ and His grace and mercy gave her strength each and every day. Death left a void that no one can fill, but love has left memories that no one can steal.
Janice is also preceded in death by her brothers, Norwood Prescott and Bryant Prescott. Other survivors include her five siblings, Bernice Arrington (Bill), Helen Howard, Rowan Prescott (Linda), Wanda McGahee and Hank Prescott; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends at the residence up until two hours prior to graveside services on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
The family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent but in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery Fund, c/o Diane Stewart, 8219 GA Hwy 88 E, Keysville GA 30816.
