James Arthur Malone, a loving patriarch, devoted worker, and proud Navy veteran, peacefully entered into eternity on June 11, 2024, at Pruitt Healthcare-Bethany in Millen, GA. Born on January 8, 1937, in Augusta, GA, James led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and connections.
After graduating high school, James bravely served his country by joining the Navy. Upon returning home, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a welder at Hamburg Railroad. His dedication and hard work saw him through over 30 years of service before he retired.
James was known for his kind and generous nature. He adored his family above all else; his grandchildren brought him immense joy. Often described as the family jokester, he loved to tell stories and share laughter with those around him.
A man of many talents and passions, James was a skilled artist who particularly enjoyed oil painting. He had a deep appreciation for music and was proficient in playing the piano and guitar, and was a member of several local bands. His creativity extended to woodworking, where he found solace in building things with his hands. An avid collector of baseball cards, James could often be found at The Barnyard selling and trading memorabilia or browsing through treasures at flea markets.
Throughout his life's journey that took him to places like Tennessee and Alabama before moving back to Augusta, James cherished the simple pleasures in life. In recent times, he resided with his granddaughter in Stapleton until their move to Martinez in 2020. His time in Stapleton was enriched by his visits to the Senior Citizens center where he enjoyed socializing and engaging in various activities. It was there he got to meet Danny Glover at their annual Christmas party.
James endured many of life’s tragedies—experiencing the loss of three spouses, health issues which included the loss of his leg as well as chronic heart failure. During all of these times, he kept a positive, can-do, never-give-up attitude.
James is survived by his children Pamela Dixon, Jimmy Malone, and Paul Mathis; grandchildren Lisa Strickland (Chad), Tina Garcia (Sixto), and Jason Dixon (Danielle); seventeen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members who will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his spouses Margurite Kitchens Malone, Bonnie Nelson Malone, and Sandra McDonald Malone; great-great-granddaughter Laylah Smith; parents Sally Crawford Malone and Louie Malone; along with three brothers Bobby Malone, Bill Malone, and Donny Malone.
Because of his extended illness, the family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home, PO Box 588, Wrens GA 30833 or by clicking on the link below:
