Iris Irene Isaac Hughes
Louisville, GA – Iris Irene Isaac Hughes, 77, loving wife of 50 years to Robert “Richard” Hughes, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday afternoon, June 26, 2019, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning, June 29, 2019 at Pinecrest Mennonite Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning at the church prior to the funeral services.
The first born to the late Mary Schmidt Isaac and the late Paul Isaac, Iris grew up and attended school in Montezuma KS. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of eleven, and was baptized by Min. David Koehn into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. In 1957, at the age of 15, her family moved to Georgia where they established a dairy farm in Davisboro. In 1969, Iris married the love of her life and began her own family.
A hard-working woman with a caring heart, she loved to take care of people. Iris worked as a nurse at various hospitals, nursing homes and as a home health care nurse. Her patients praised her for the loving, compassionate care she gave them. When not taking care of the sick and elderly, she worked in local department stores where she loved to visit with the people who came to shop. She also sold Watkins and Avon products, which brought her in contact with many people.
Iris enjoyed camping and fishing at the lake, and shopping—most every afternoon at 4:00, she would grab her car keys and head off to a store just to shop. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren, who were especially dear to her heart. Death has left a void that no one can fill, but her love has left memories that no one can steal.
Those cherishing precious memories are her children, Tracey Hughes of Shoals, and Cathy and Dayton Ratzlaff of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Shaun and Michele Hughes, Casey and Tina Hughes, Sonya Ratzlaff, Logan Ratzlaff, Devin Ratzlaff, Jaci Ratzlaff, and Janae Ratzlaff; great grandson, Bennett Hughes; four sisters, MaryAnn Brown of Davisboro, Wava Isaac of Louisville, Wanita and Brinson Rachels of Appling, and Twila and Dale Holdeman of Wrens; one brother, Andy and Brenda Isaac of Mitchell; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Iris is also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Isaac; and brother-in-law, Bennie Frank Brown.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Gibson Nursing Home and to Affinis Hospice for their loving care.
