Helen Cook Brown

Avera, GA  –               Helen Cook Brown, 92, beloved wife of 63 years to the late Ralph Brown, went home to be with her Lord Sunday morning, February 11, 2018 from her residence.  Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2018, with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment will follow in the Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown retired from Jefferson County Extension service on January 31, 1988 after 25 years of service. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and served Him at Waldens United Methodist Church until her health decline. One of her greatest joys was telling others about Jesus. Her other joy was her family whom she loved unconditionally. She was happiest in their presence.

Mrs. Brown is also preceded in death by her precious children, Deborah, Steve and Johnny; and parents, Nellie Barksdale Cook and James McKinley Cook. Survivors include her loving children, Ken and Anne Brown of Auburn AL, Carol and Derek Logan of Taylors SC, and Caren and Mikel Skinner of Avera; her dear, special sister, Jean Huddleston; ten blessed grandchildren, Shannon Brown, Kendall Ralph Brown, Jr. (Claire), Jenny Brown Young (Scott), Becky Skinner Peters (Randy), Stephen Skinner (Pamela), Joanna Logan Warren (Caleb), Jonathan Logan (Levin), Jeremy Logan (Faith), Ben Skinner (Amanda) and Rob Skinner; and sixteen great grandchildren, Kendall, Drew, Sydney, Scarlett, Taylor, Zackery, Mason, Ella Kate, Maggie Mikel, Nathan, Chandler, Randi Grace, Adeline, Reia Joy, Nia and Emerson.  Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waldens UMC Cemetery Fund, c/o Patricia Kitchens, 1304 Hadden Pond Road, Avera GA 30803, or to Trinity Hospice, 1501 Anthony Road, Augusta GA 30904.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the loving, compassionate care provided to Patricia Holdeman, Maddie Summy and Trinity Hospice, especially Vicki Patterson, Cathy Mann, Darry Hatcher, Amy Holliday and Chaplain Tom Kalliokosi.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, February 13, 2018.
