Born and raised in Washington County, Woodrow moved to Macon after graduating high school to begin his career working in the meat market for Colonial Stores. It was here he met the love of his life, marrying her three months later. After moving for different job offers, they made their life-long home in Wrens with him working for Red and White and IGA. He was a butcher and market manager for over forty years.
Woodrow enjoyed serving the public and was well known for his happy demeanor and his love for telling jokes. No one was a stranger to him and he could entertain a room with his fun-loving energy. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing his favorite country and gospel songs. He loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren, often bragging about them. His great grandchildren brought great joy to him as he affectionately called them "Junior" and "Blue Eyes."
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, Buford New and Kate New Franklin; his brother, Gene New; brothers in-law, Ralph Jones and G.T. Brantley; sister in-law, Betty New; and son in-law, Tommy Holley. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carolyn New; his children, Greg New and DeAnn Holley; grandchildren, Lee Holley (Krystle) and Leslie Bentley (Will); great grandchildren; brother, Buford New Jr.; sisters, Jeanene Jones and Erin Brantley; nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
