Hattie Bell Manning McLendon
Louisville, GA – Hattie Bell Manning McLendon, 92, loving wife of the late James M. “Jimmy” McLendon, peacefully entered into her eternal rest Friday morning, March 24, 2017 at National Health Care Nursing Home in North Augusta. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Monday morning, March 27, 2017 at Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Anderson officiating.
The youngest of nine children born to the late Jennie Davis Manning and the late Albert Manning, Hattie grew up and graduated school in Bartow. After marrying the love of her life, they moved to Louisville where she lived until her health declined and moved to North Augusta to be closer to her daughter. Hattie was a seamstress and inspector in the garment industry, working for General Shirt Corporation for 35 years and then retiring from J.P. Stevens after 10 years of service. She enjoyed “farm life”—gardening and being outdoors. A Methodist by faith, she was baptized as a young girl and in her later years attended Waldens UMC. All of her life, she lived by the Golden Rule—do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Her love of Christ was manifested in her love for people, her gentle kindness and considerate nature. She is known for her great smile and sharing laughter—she was easy to love. Hattie’s greatest joy and calling in life was taking care of her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
Hattie was also preceded in death by her son, James M. “J.M.” McLendon Jr.; and all of her siblings. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda McLendon Stewart (L.J.) of North Augusta SC; two grandchildren, Lindsey Stewart-Gonzalez (Raul) of Rochester NY, and Nicholas McLendon (Anna) of Swainsboro; two great grandsons, Cameron McLendon and Michael McLendon; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Nicholas McLendon, Cameron McLendon, Michael McLendon, Buford Manning, Freddie Manning and L.J. Stewart.
The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to graveside services on Monday, March 27, 2017.
