Guy “Brett” Williams
Stapleton, GA – Guy “Brett” Williams, 50, loving husband of Diane Lynn Powell Williams, entered into his eternal rest Sunday night, September 23, 2017 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Downtown Division in Augusta. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 P.M. Thursday afternoon, September 28, 2017 with Dr. Luther Felder officiating. Military honors will follow.
With the exception of his military travels and a few years after his tour ended, Brett was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County where he attended Louisville High School. After graduating from Glascock County Consolidated School in Gibson, he joined the Navy, serving his country in Desert Storm—he was a true patriot who loved America. He worked for Adaptive Wheelchair Company in Michigan before returning home to Louisville where he worked for ThermoKing. Loving the freedom of the road, he became a long-haul truck driver, working for Estes before his health decline. Brett loved to fish and he had a life-long love for racing—his favorite all-time NASCAR driver was Dale Earnhart with his favorite local drivers being Bill and Cole Godowns. He has been described as the world’s biggest flirt and jokester. He loved to make people laugh and smile—he wanted everyone to have a good time. Being a gregarious person, he never met a stranger. Brett accepted people just as they are and was never one to judge a book by its cover. His true treasure was his family and friends whom he loved unconditionally and without end.
Brett is preceded in death by his father, Willie Burt Williams. Other survivors include his mother, Brenda Rogers Williams; daughters, Summer Leigh Williams and Kelly Marie Williams (Delton Unruh); three siblings, Bonny Gainey (Mike), Bill Williams and Ben Williams (Gladys); four grandchildren, Ally Brett Mills, Savannah Leianna Unruh, Harley Grace Unruh and Conner Vincent Unruh; sister-in-law, Lynn Williams; special friends, Angie Kemp and Amy Gordon; nieces, nephews and many friends
The family will receive friends after the services at the Williams’ residence.
