George Emory Arrington, Sr.

Matthews, GA  –        George “Emory” Arrington, Sr., 70, entered into his eternal rest Sunday night, January 8, 2017 at his residence.  Graveside services will be held at the Church of God Cemetery at 11:00 AM Thursday morning, January 12, 2017, with Rev. Jody Boulineau officiating.

The youngest of nine children born to the late Eunice Pennington Arrington and the late Thomas “Hardy” Arrington, Emory was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, graduating from Wrens High School and earning a welding certificate from Augusta Tech. Growing up on the land, he was a farmer for many years producing wheat, soybeans and corn, after which he owned and operated a construction company specializing in residential foundations all over the CSRA. A people-person, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger—he loved to talk and held conversations about a myriad of topics. He did not like silence, so he filled it with music, having a special affinity for Southern Gospel, especially the Gaithers.  Emory had a great laugh, which was infectious.  A good-hearted, strong-willed man, he loved his family and was happiest in their presence.  His death leaves a void that no one can fill, but his love leaves memories that no one can steal.

Emory is also preceded in death by his brothers, Hayden Arrington and Jack Arrington. Survivors include his four children, Valerie A. Shelton (Cecil Jr.), Amie Avery (Sammie), George Arrington, Jr. (Lorie) and Jennifer Castle (Chris); six siblings, Ann Prescott, Faye Williams, Nell Boulineau (Paul), Libby Boulineau (Bennett), Aubrey Arrington (Nancy) and Edward Arrington (Sammie); nine grandchildren, Nathan Chance, Rachel Chance, Makenzie Avery, Harley Freeman (Caitlyn), A.J. Freeman, Tommy Freeman (Jade), Taylor Castle, Ashley Castle and Halee Castle; five great grandchildren, Ava Neal, Braylen Freeman, Baylee Freeman, Hudson Freeman and Chloe Swope; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.  Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Arrington, Keith Boulineau, Chris Castle, Nathan Chance, A.J. Freeman, Harley Freeman, Tommy Freeman and Barrow Walden.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday evening, January 11, 2017.

Psalms 23 (NKJ)

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastrues;
He leads me beside the still waters .
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You annoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
