George Seebert Lauderdale
Wrens, GA – The Rev. George Seebert Lauderdale, 87, of Zebina, loving husband of 67 years to Sally Swan Burke Lauderdale, entered peacefully into his eternal rest Monday morning, March 6, 2017 at Keysville Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM Friday afternoon, March 10, 2017, with Rev. Carl Geisik officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
One of six children born to the late Sallie Ann Chapman Lauderdale and the Rev. David Thomas Lauderdale, George was a native of Lexington, Va., where he grew up and graduated high school, after which he attended Erskine College in South Carolina. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949, he continued at Erskine Seminary to receive his Masters of Divinity in 1952. He served in the pastorate in South Carolina and Virginia. George started a radio ministry in 1954, which has been broadcasted in the Philippines for the last 40 years. In 1959, he was one of the founders and original board members for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Moving to Atlanta, he taught at several Bible colleges in the area from 1963 through 1986. In 1971, he formed the non-profit Intercession for Israel, traveling to more than 50 countries and making more than 20 trips to Israel. George moved to Wrens at the end of 1985, where he continued serving the Lord by writing a weekly column for the News and Farmer for the past 30 years. In 2014, his life’s work culminated in WordSing, his publication of the Bible in rhyme and meter. A devoted husband and father, George dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior by using his intelligence and talents to further His kingdom through his writing and broadcasting career. He obeyed and followed God’s path—a path that was not easy but one in which God always provided. This great man of faith touched a multitude of lives across the world. Even though he will be greatly missed, he is now reaping rewards in Heaven for his faithful service. When he closed his eyes on earth, he opened them to his everlasting home in Heaven and was greeted with “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant.”
George was also preceded in death by his siblings, David Thomas Lauderdale Jr., Wilbur Chapman Lauderdale and Sally Ann Franze.
