A lifelong resident of the Jefferson-Glascock county area, George was born on September 29, 1945 to the late Maudie Lamb Black and the late Joseph Thomas Black Sr. He spent his life leaving lasting impressions on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

His love for music, especially bluegrass and country tunes, brought joy to those around him. A loyal fan of the GA Bulldawgs and Thomson High School Bulldogs, he never missed a game—either in person or tuned in on the radio.
