Geneva B. McTier
Stapleton, GA – Geneva Belle McTier, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, Stapleton, on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00AM with the Pastor Marion Jay officiating. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery beside her sister, Mary McTier.
Geneva was born in Warren County and was one of sixteen children born to the late John David McTier and the late Emma Matilda McGahee McTier. Earlier in the year she had celebrated her 97th birthday, sharing her cake with some relatives and friends who dropped in. Geneva never lacked for friends! Her first years in the Gibson Center were filled with many daily walks around all the halls, greeting and being greeted by staff and patients who looked forward to seeing her. Prior to making her home in the Gibson Center, Geneva spent most of her adult life in Augusta. She maintained her home and yard. Relatives and neighbors benefited from her enjoyment of baking cakes for them on special occasions. In her postage-stamp size yard, she could make anything grow. Geneva generously shared clippings from flowers and bushes, along with verbal instructions on how to be sure they thrived. Most of all, her energy went to FAMILY! She kept up with all the members in each generation, remembering their birthdays and anniversaries. She proudly kept a growing collection of family pictures. Geneva leaves a legacy of family love and caring to her large family of kinfolk.
She came from a large family of siblings, and outlived every one of them. The older siblings were Hulon (Estell), Essie Mae (Drew), Macon (Myrtice), Isaylia (Greene), and Thomas (Asalee). The younger siblings were Mary, Johnnie Mae (Lutes), Kimmel (Agnes), Norman, Hammond, Roy (Wendy), Robert (Anna), Harry (Bert). Of the younger siblings, six brothers and one sister were veterans of World War II. Geneva is survived by three sisters -in-law: Agnes McTier of Wrens, Anna McTier Williford of Thomson, and Bert McTier Jay of Augusta. Her nephews served as pallbearers--Martin McTier, Mike McTier, Michael McTier, Chris McTier, Jace McTier and David McTier.
